5 Ways to Protect your Peace Daily While Supporting Community
You can’t serve from an empty cup, ever heard that saying before?! Sometimes we forget but its absolutely true, we can’t be our best selves if we are depleted of energy and our essence is dull. We must always take time to care for ourselves before serving community.
For this community post, I’d like to give you my own tips on protecting your peace while supporting others. As an activist and consultant, I am constantly reminded that my batteries need to be refreshed before I can continue putting my heart and soul into my work. This was something I actively worked on with a mentor of mine this year, and have been continuing in my daily routine.
So here are 5 ways to protect your peace daily!
Create a minimal and simple Morning and Night routine.
Routines have become super popular these days but also very time consuming and complicated! Make yours simple and minimal. Make it easy to follow and stick to, and every once in a while switch it up, add in something new or take out what you don’t need, but always make sure it serves you and doesn’t stress you out.
Schedule time for Self-Care
We may feel that an intention is enough to make us take action on something but often, we just need to put it down on our schedule for it to actually manifest! Take the time at the beginning of your week to schedule all the self-care that will help you feel your best. Face masks, baths, a hike in the woods, meditating at the beach, spending an hour at a book store…. these are all self-care practices that don’t need to cost a dime.
Practice Gratitude
Make it a habit to write down the things you are grateful for daily. This is a deep practice and one that will help you keep your peace. When we step outside of ourselves and look at all the things that bring us joy, we can start to feel a sense of ease and relaxation.
Let go of habits that don’t serve you
This is essential because wellness is not about taking on more, it’s about releasing what doesn’t work and making space for what is truly nourishing to our mind, body, and spirit. Make it a practice to actively have self-awareness and see what habits are holding you back from living a holistic life? It could be as simple as not skipping breakfast in the mornings, but whatever it is let it come from your highest self, not your judgemental self.
Rest, Rest, Rest
As my dear friend Tina Strawn says rest is an act of resistance. It’s incredibly important we take time to rest daily, even if we feel we don’t have the time to. And no we aren’t talking about sleep here! Rest can be sitting under a tree for 20 min starring at the clouds, or it can look like watching a movie on the couch so you can rest your bones. You can, believe it or not, make this a part of your daily routine. Even just 5-10 min of rest can make a big difference.
To help you in your wellness journey, I’ve created a FREE Embody Inclusivity Wellness Planner that can help you keep track of all 5 tips in this article! It includes 30 undated daily pages, 4 weekly Yoga + Movement Pages, 4 weekly Goals + Habits pages, and a Year Manifested page. Let us know how it works for you, I hope it helps you manifest a more holistic daily routine that really works for you.
